Just did a search for "that" in the first two chapters of a book several years in the works. I discovered if the sentence can stand without the "that" take it out, but sometimes, it must be there. The "to" is harder. Don't mind the lolz, my humor gets misunderstood frequently. Grandchildren look at me oddly until I add a verbal lol.
