An old lady wonders…
It happens every time these days. It must be my white hair.
“Do you need some help getting these in the car?”
Depending on how crowded HEB is, my reply is:“Only if you are going to come home and take them out of the car.”
Most of the time it gets a laugh. Sometimes, like when one of the managers was helping sack, I get a funny reply. “Hey, I’m about to go to lunch, let me check if I can leave.”
She was kidding but I got a laugh out of it.
However, I am frequently a bit put out by them thinking I need help. Very seldom do I really need help getting things done. I have worked hard to stay in shape. Just because I am past eight decades does not mean I am helpless. I need to remember that I am an outlier in my age group.
We were the girls who learned to play half-court basketball. We were the girls who were warned not to be too active, or we’d damage our “baby making” parts. How I envy my granddaughter, active, physically healthy, proud of herself. It only took two generations to change society, but the danger is looming to fall back.
The trad wife, the submissive woman, the idea that physical abuse is allowed in some cases (Yes, DJT said that recently!) loss of the right to vote are all being advanced. Women are only good to serve men and have babies. How prescient was Ms. Atwood!
Be aware, pay attention women of America! The battle was hard and long. Do not let it fall away because you are not paying attention.
